I've heard that you can use shampoo. Would pantene pro v be alright or do I need something more gentle? How do I clean my make up brushes?
If you're going to use a shampoo, then go for the purest one with the least additives. Baby shampoo works fine.
You don't need antibacterial soap (and antibacterial soap, brushes, etc. are just creating new bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, so PLEASE don't buy or use them!!!). Alcohol works great for that purpose. Either wipe your brushes across an alcohol-soaked pad, or just put some alcohol into a spritz bottle with a fine mist sprayer and spray it onto your brushes after washing them (and after using them if you aren't going to wash them after each use).
Sephora makes nice, reasonably-priced brush cleaners (both ';brush shampoo'; type cleaner and an alcohol-based spritz) in both full-size and travel-size bottles. (You can try the travel-size bottles first to see if you like them.)
Technique is at least as important as the cleaning agent. Put a very small dab of shampoo, brush cleansing soap, etc., on your palm. Run the brush hairs under very warm running water, then swirl the brush around your palm to work the cleanser into the brush hairs. Rinse the brush hairs under running water. Repeat, if necessary, until the brush hairs are clean and you don't see any residual color in your palm. After the final rinse, give your brush one quick, hard shake (like a thermometer), then gently reshape the hairs and lay the brush down on the sink with the handle on the edge and the brush head hanging over the open part, with nothing touching it. Allow it to air-dry completely before putting it away.
Important: Never let the water get into the metal ferrule that holds the hairs/bristles. It will loosen the glue and the hairs will start falling out of the brush - if not immediately, then a lot sooner than normal.
A'Squirrel, which manufactures high-end squirrel-hair brushes (blue squirrel is the most luxurious hair for makeup brushes), says to avoid shampoos with glycerin if you're using them to wash your makeup brushes. They also recommend two high-quality cleaners used for artists' brushes, which are available at good art supply stores: Masters Brush Cleaner %26amp; Preserver and ';Pink Soap'; Artist Brush Cleaner and Conditioner.
Hope this helps! How do I clean my make up brushes?
Yeah, you can use shampoo. You can also buy make-up brush cleaner at drug stores or make-up specialty stores. Or if you have a liquid face make-up remover, you can use that too. Pantene should work just fine. Make sure your brushes are dry before you use them again.
