You can get an amazing set of brushes at a Costco.

It's about $17 for all of the brushes. About 15-20 brushes. It's great, and it's an amazing deal. I believe it comes with a small mirror also. Believe me, this is the best deal you can get. (I wasted money and spent $15 on a NY eyeshadow brush!) Good luck, hun!
ecotools!! they are fantastic. they're environmentally friendly, softer than MAC brushes and quite cheap. i got a whole set on ebay for $5 but you can buy a whole set for $14 at your local drugstore or places like target. i've used expensive brushes from bobbi brown, MAC, chanel and such and i think these are just as great. =)
just shop around a bit.

many ';cheap'; make up brands also sell brushes at reasonable prices, and if you like the shape and size, get them.

just lately, I bought a set by uma and I'm really happy with it. a positive surprise at last ;-)
The Body Shop have a really good line of brushes, they are quality, but not over the top expensive.
