I bought an expensive blush brush and would like to keep it for awhile.
I know that it is important to wash the fibers, but how?
Also, should I be washing out the sponge applicators that I apply eye shadow with?
Thanks for your help.
What is the best way to clean make up brushes?
Use mild shampoo on the bristles, but try to keep water off the ferrule, then rinse thoroughly. Reshape the bristles, then lay them on a towel to dry. Yes, you can clean the sponges too. What is the best way to clean make up brushes?
I wash my makeup brushes in the sink filled with warm water and some baby shampoo. I swish them around until they are clean and rinse them well. I gently squeeze the excess water out of them and dry them flat on a washcloth, but I let the bristles hang over the edge of the counter so they can dry evenly and completely. Once in a while I use a conditioner on them, just a cheap one like Suave, because it makes the bristles extra soft and makes the makeup go on smoothly. If you do this, make sure you rinse the conditioner out completely.
As for sponge applicators, are you using the ones that come with the compact? I never wash those because I rarely use them, and I wouldn't wash them because they won't hold up. I apply eyeshadow with a brush, and I recommend it. You get a much smoother, even and longer lasting application that way.
Sometimes I use brush cleanser from MAC http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/pr鈥?/a>
And it's really good. There are many brush cleanser, but in fact, when I used to clean it with the ordinary shampoo... it was the same. If your brush is really good, it will be good if you use the shampoo, the cleanser... it's really not that important.
Regardless of the type of bristle, you are best to use mild soap and warm water. I use a mild anti bacterial hand wash.
It is really really important that you wash them well, but then DRY them properly before next use. If you don't, you may cause bacterial infections (pimples etc).
1.Rinse under warm water, running softly.
2. take mild hand soap, or children's shampoo and gently work it through the bristles.
3. repeat step one.
4. Place on a towel and let dry for 2 hours.

Just wash them gently in whatever you use to wash your hands normally. Then, try to hang them up (I use a string and a doorknob), so that they will dry and set properly.
shampoo and conditioner seriously it works!
Warm water for both and let them dry naturally
use either baby shampoo or your makeup remover face wash.
soap will dry out your brushes
